Exactly Right

Whenever I'm tempted to link to something by James Lileks, I start by choosing an excerpt of his great prose. Finding one excerpt insufficient, the post inevitably grows. ("Once You Pop, You Can't Stop!") Wary of copying his entire post, I give up.

CGHill has it exactly right here:

Excerpting Lileks is rather like fixating on Marilyn Monroe a square inch at a time...

Methinks perhaps I should withdraw the comment; I doubt there's one inch on here that's even slightly square.

And if I'd been paying attention to my typing instead of to the photo, I'd have rendered it "one inch on her", which is what I was supposed to have said, instead of "one inch on here", which borders on TMI.
